Role Overview

Job Purpose
An exiting opportunity to work for an industry leader in media on-demand technologies and data processing solutions. Applicants needs to be comfortable working at the leading edge of technology and working on dynamic high-availability commercial platforms.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced and skilled systems professional who will work as part of a team supporting and developing enterprise Linux / UNIX systems and environments. The role will require working closely with customers at a variety of levels to provide and support highest quality technical solutions. The role incorporates out of hours support and some travel.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Ensuring the availability of enterprise customer systems, applications and infra-structure by pro-active monitoring, maintenance and management
  • Helping to develop enterprise systems
  • Provide on-call and out-of-hours support of systems
  • Carrying out agreed support procedures

Skills

  • Experience at an Enterprise level in Solaris and/or Linux Systems Administration
  • Excellent knowledge of Red Hat Linux and Sun Solaris (essential)
  • Knowledge of key Linux / UNIX applications (web, ftp, Java application, DNS etc.) (essential)
  • Broad knowledge of networking (desirable)
  • Broad knowledge of database (desirable)
  • Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year commercial experience of bespoke enterprise systems / applications support (essential)
  • Experience of supporting enterprise-levels customers (essential)
  • Experience of managing / planning successful projects (desirable)

Qualifications

  • Good technical degree (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ITIL (desirable)
  • Attributes and Competencies
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Confidence and ability to work unsupervised
  • Demonstrable planning ability
  • Shows initiative and is pro-active
  • Willingness to learn and work with new and different technologies
