Role Overview
We are looking for senior technical project managers who are as deeply interested
in the technology as they are in the art of delivering systems to spec, date, budget
and quality criteria.
You will have had significant recent experience of project managing the software development of complex web based systems throughout the project lifecycle. You will have superb communication and customer facing skills and have extensive experience of business and requirements analysis. You will have worked in a commercial environment, managing the relationship with both customer and third party suppliers. You will have extensive experience of working with and directly managing teams of highly skilled technical development staff. You must therefore have a solid technical background, have worked across the entire project lifecycle and actively used and applied structured software design and development methods such as OO, RUP and Agile. You must be aware of software engineering processes such as configuration and release management.
Experience of managing web-based data/content/document oriented projects is necessary. We also work with core vendors and technologies such as Java, Vignette, Oracle, Sun, BEA, IBM, Microsoft, .NET etc - experience of one or more of these is a must. Experience of working in the media and telecoms sector is definitely preferred.
Experience of formal estimating approaches would be ideal. Experience of planning, tracking and controlling project costs, schedule and quality for enterprise projects over £750k in value is necessary. You will have had experience of managing client relationships and demonstrate an understanding of the commercial considerations that need to be taken into account in planning and delivering complex customer solutions. You will be hands-on and 'can do' in your attitude and be genuinely concerned with customer care and satisfaction. You will probably be from a professional services/consultancy background. Professional project management qualifications (e.g. ISEB, APM, PRINCE 2) are a bonus.
You need to be a graduate with a good degree in a science, maths or engineering
discipline, with at least 10 years of software development experience, 5 of which
should involve the project management of complex software development projects.
You must be available to travel between our York and London offices. There may also
be opportunities for further international travel.
